Global Peoples Platform for Socio-Ecological Transformation
Building Power for Global Transformation
The Global Peoples Platform for Socio-Ecological Transformation is a dynamic and evolving initiative bringing together a diverse, global network of democratic social movements, academics, Indigenous Peoples, and trade unions to co-create knowledge, strengthen alliances, and amplify voices for systemic change.
Born out of a shared urgency to challenge the dominant development model, the platform is a space for collaboration across continents—especially between the Global South and North, and increasingly among actors in the Global South. It is rooted in the belief that meaningful socio-ecological transformation must be democratic, decolonial, and grounded in the lived realities of those most affected by systemic marginalisation and exploitation. Yet, we are stronger together and building trusting and lasting relationships and collaborations between democratic movements in the Global South and North has been at the centre of our project.
At its core, the platform is not a fixed structure but a participatory process—shaped by its members and their collective vision for a just and sustainable future. Since its kick-off workshop in Germany in 2023, the platform has grown into a vibrant ecosystem of exchange, solidarity, and experimentation.
We work through five thematic working groups:
- Transformative Just Energy Transitions
- Agroecology
- Governance of the Commons
- Alternative Finance
- Anti-Systemic Economic Alternatives
These groups bring together thinkers and doers from workers’, women’s, Indigenous, and peasant movements, as well as researchers and practitioners from around the world. With over 30 member organizations spanning Africa, Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, Europe, and North America, the majority of our voices come from the Global South.
All together, we aim to:
- Contribute to global debates on socio-ecological transformations of the economy from a Global South perspective
- Scale up development alternatives that challenge systemic injustice
- Build bridges between local struggles and gloal advocacy
- Explore how solidarity, strategy and shared knowledge can drive real change
This platform is a space for those who believe that another worls is not only possible – but already in the making!
