Call for Proposals: Small Farmer Initiatives Grant
Applications are now open.
GPPSET’s Agroecology Working Group is pleased to invite small-scale farmers, farmer groups, and cooperatives to apply for the Small Farmer Initiatives Grant — a funding programme designed to support innovative, community-rooted, and sustainable agricultural practices across our member regions.
This grant is for the farmers and communities already doing the work: those who are building food sovereignty from the ground up, adapting to a changing climate with ingenuity and care, and sustaining their livelihoods through practices that nurture rather than deplete the land. We want to back what is already working and help it go further.
What we are looking for
We welcome proposals that focus on any of the following: increasing farm productivity through sustainable and ecological methods; diversifying income through value addition or new market connections; building climate resilience through agroforestry, water-saving irrigation, or biodiversity conservation; and peer-to-peer learning and capacity building within farming communities. Projects that are practical, replicable, and grounded in local knowledge are particularly encouraged.
Who can apply
Individual small-scale farmers and farmer groups or cooperatives are eligible, provided that farming is the applicant’s primary livelihood and they are actively farming in a target province or district. Priority will be given to applicants who have not recently received significant funding from large government or international programmes — we want to reach those who are often left out.
How to apply
Download the application form using the link below. Proposals should describe your current farming practice and explain how the project will benefit your community. You may submit supporting verification through a letter from a community or village leader, a local government certification, or confirmation from a farmer network or indigenous organisation. If you need help completing the form, local facilitators are available to support you — do not let paperwork stand in the way of a good idea.
Shortlisted proposals will be reviewed by an impartial selection committee on the basis of impact, feasibility, innovation, and the applicant’s commitment and capacity to carry the work forward.
